LA Hires Todd McLellan

The Los Angeles Kings have a new head coach.

The NHL club announced on Tuesday it has hired Todd McLellan, who was most recenlty the coach of the Edmonton Oilers.

McLellan replaces Willie Desjardins, whose contract wasn't extended after he replaced John Stevens early in the season.

Los Angeles finished 31-42-9 in its worst season since 2007-08.

Previous to being in Edmonton, McLellan spent seven years as the coach of the San Jose Sharks, making six playoff appearances from 2009-14 in his first NHL head coaching job.

McLellan has 434 career victories behind the bench and was also a candidate for the vacancy in Buffalo.
