Lakeshore Watching Ice Jam in Thames River

Lakeshore is keeping an eye on a flood warning in Chatham-Kent.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority says an ice jam in the Thames River is causing water levels to rise rapidly.

Flooding is being reported in low-lying areas in Chatham.

The 6th Street Dam and Pumping Station have been activated which protect the south end of Chatham on McGregor Creek from flooding.

The Authority says there could be additional impacts downstream through the Raleigh and Dover areas and into the town of Lakeshore including Lighthouse Cove.

Meanwhile, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for some unstable weather coming our way.

Strong and gusty southwest winds arrive Thursday night bringing a sharp drop in temperatures.

Temperatures will rise to 13C Thursday evening, but will fall Friday.

Wind gusts could reach up to 85 to 90km/hour, but will die down Friday afternoon.

The winds could cause minor tree damage and power outages.
