Lancers Baseball Gunning For OUA Title
A first for the Windsor Lancers baseball team.
They're playing at the OUA Baseball Championships this weekend in Ajax after York University dropped out.
The Lancers have been seeded 10th of ten teams as they were a late addition to the single elimination tournament.
But Head Coach Frank Jeney says they're feeling confident heading in as the underdogs.
Jeney says the mood is positive in the club house.
"They're pretty excited. Any time you get to go away and play some baseball it's pretty exciting. These guys work pretty hard. They do a lot of the work on their own and it's just a good time to get away and see how we pair up against other Ontario teams."
Jeney says they've had some solid competition to prep for the tournament.
"So we're in the NCBA with Michigan, Michigan State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan and Western Michigan. So we played against the University of Michigan two weekends ago. We played some exhibition games against St. Clair College every Wednesday just due to proximity."
The Lancers open action this morning at 11am against the No. 7 McMaster Marauders.
With a win, they'll move on to play the No. 2 Laurier Golden Hawks tonight 7pm.
The semi-finals are slated for tomorrow at 11am with the championship game to be played on Sunday at 3pm.
