Large Gathering Expected For Herman's 60th Reunion

What do NHL head coach Bob Boughner, Olympic boxer Mary Spencer and former NFL player O.J Atogwe have in common?

They are all Herman grads.

The school is celebrating its 60th reunion this weekend with a Friday welcoming night party, a large reunion gathering on Saturday and 9 holes of golf on Sunday.

It is estimated Herman has graduated over 80,000 students since its doors opened in 1958.

Alumni committee member Nancy Campana says the school on Bernard Rd. looks a lot different today.

"The school underwent a major change last year when the grade school and high school were combined," she says. "So major renovations, there is no longer a pool inside the school which many people are shocked to find out in our communication with grads."

All of the funds raised during this weekend's event will be used for a legacy project to build a media centre for the outdoor stadium at the school which will be made out of a shipping container.

It's estimated about $30,000 will be raised.
