LaSalle Purchases Waterfront Property
The Town of LaSalle has purchased some waterfront property.
Mayor Ken Antaya says the town has acquired the Westport Marina property on Front Rd near Bouffard Rd.
He says the $2-million deal has closed, however the marina owners will retain control of the property until October 31, 2019.
Antaya says as of now, the town does not have plans for the site.
"The council of the day will likely get the community involved on what they would like to see there and I'm sure that's the approach they're going to take," says Antaya. We've discussed it all and they haven't got the immediate plans other than we've acquired waterfront property and obviously we want to take advantage of the waterfront."
He says the deal has been in the works for months.
"When it first came up, we wanted it but the price was out of our range and then we were able to negotiate and we got to a price that we considered to be a good deal for the municipality and a good deal for the owners of the property as well," says Antaya.
Antaya says there is a large storage facility on site.
"When we took a look at the property our original thought was to remove the big building right on Front on Highway 18 so that we could get a view of the river," says Antaya. "However when our staff and the appraisers went through there to determine the value of the property and whether or not we're on the mark with our offer, they indicated that the building was an exceptional building and in really good shape."
The property is located north of Gil Maure Park.
The marina has been operating since 1976 and has 150 boat wells.
