Leamington District Secondary School Debuts

With upgraded facilities and a jump in enrollment, public school students are going to have a good year.

That's according to Greater Essex District School Board Director of Education Erin Kelly.

She told AM800 News a brand new building in Leamington is something the town can be proud of.

Leamington District Secondary School cost $27-million to build and she says so far everyone who's toured the school has been impressed.

"I attended the orientation the other day and it's excellent," says Kelly. "The school is really large with a commercial kitchen, lots of tech-shops, a triple-gym, so that's very exciting for the Leamington community."

She told AM800 News a brand new building in Leamington is something the town can be proud of.

"It's amazing what's happened over the summer to fix windows, boilers, roofs, getting major renovations and repairs done," she says. "With all the summer learning stuff that happened, we're right back at it soon."

New and upgraded facilities arrived just in time, she says preliminary enrolment is on the rise.

"We're anticipating a bit of an increase, so we're quite excited about that," she says. "We don't do all our numbers until a few weeks into things, but things are looking good for us."

Kelly also highlighted more localized English as a Second Language programs, high school "head start" offered over the summer months, and revamped Learning Management Programs for the 2017 school year.
