Leamington Man Caught In Joint Forces Cocaine Arrests
A 42-year-old Leamington man is among a dozen people arrested in a massive RCMP probe of cocaine smuggling.
The Mounties initiated Project OWING last year to identify people involved in the importation of the illicit drug into Canada.
Waterloo Regional Police, the canada Border Services Agency, Homeland Security and the US Drug Enforcement Agency participated in the joint effort.
They say the drugs were hidden among legitimate cargo coming into the country.
In their roundup during the execution of 14 search warrants, 38.5 kilograms of cocaine was seized.
Most of the suspects are from the Kitchener area and charges include conspiracy to import controlled substances and importation of controlled substances.
Philip Boutros of Leamington is charged.
