Lions Select Tight End with the Eight Pick in the 2019 NFL Draft
The Detroit Lions grabbed a big target for quarterback Matt Stafford Thursday night.
Iowa Hawkeyes tight end T.J. Hockenson has been snapped up with the eighth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
The 6'-5" 251-lbs junior was rated as an "instant starter" after the Draft Combine.
He started 13 games for Iowa in 2018, leading the team with 49 catches for 760 yards and a 15.5-yard average to go with six touchdowns.
Hockenson was first-team Big-Ten all-conference and won the John Mackey Award as the nation's top tight end and the Big Ten Tight End of the Year award.
NFL analysts say he's a dominant run blocker, can hold his own as a receiver, and he's great in the red zone.
The Arizona Cardinals took Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with the first overall pick in this year’s draft.
Detroit’s next pick is in the 11 slot of round two Friday.
