Local Officials Monitoring Michigan Auto Plant Fire
A major fire at a Michigan auto parts plant could affect Windsor Assembly Plant.
Unifor Local 444 President, James Stewart says officials are monitoring the situation and the impact, if any, would possibly be felt by next week.
Chrysler Spokesperson, Lou Ann Gosselin says there is no impact at this time and officials at Windsor Assembly Plant are working with the supplier on recovery efforts.
According to a Lansing newspaper, the blaze at Meridian Magnesium, the city’s largest employer, forced the evacuation of nearly 150 people from the building.
The fire was followed by a series of explosions around 1:30am Wednesday.
Two people were injured but were treated and released from a nearby medical centre.
Meridian Magnesium is the world's leading supplier of lightweight cast metal solutions for the transportation industry.
