Local Prep School Invited to Prestigious Tournament
A local prep school has been invited to participate in one of the most prestigious hockey tournaments in the Country.
St. Andrew's College has invited Windsor's Academy 21 to play in the National Independent School Invitational Championship (NISIC), which starts Thursday in Aurora and at Upper Canada College in Toronto.
The organizing committee selected 14 of the top prep hockey school programs in Eastern Canada including Ridley College, St.Michael's College, Stanstead College, and Newbridge Academy.
St.Andrew's has had five NHL Draft picks in the last five years right out of high school.
Academy 21's, Head Coach Robb Serviss, tells AM800 Sports they are attempting to prepare the young players for the future.
"What we're trying to do here is help these kids get to the next level and for most of them they're looking to get across the border to the NCAA, so everything we do is with high standards."
Serviss goes on to say it's beneficial to have their program at the WFCU Centre with the Spitfires in the same facility, saying "one of the attractive selling points is the facility and the proximity to the Spitfires, and they've been awesome with us as well, and helped us with different things."
Serviss says it's a great honour to be playing in this huge tournament in only their second season.
