Local Race Car Driver Turning Heads
Roman DeAngelis from Belle River is one of the hottest up-and-coming racers in North America.
The 18-year-old is competing at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park this weekend in Bowmanville as part of the track's annual Victoria Day SpeedFest.
DeAngelis says it was his father, Max, who owns Fortis Construction that got him into the sports.
"My middle name is actually named after a race car driver, Ayrton Senna so that's how I was born with it," says DeAngelis. "My dad was a huge race fan and asked when I was eight or nine, if I wanted to compete in Go-Karting."
This year, Roman is racing in Porsche championships both in the U.S. and in Canada.
While this is the season opener for the Canadian championship, DeAngelis says they've had a great start in the States this year.
"Two weekends, four races and we've been on the podium all four races, won three of them and we were second the Saturday at Mid-Ohio so it's been a good run so far."
Additionally back in January, DeAngelis competed in the prestigious Rolex 24 at Daytona a 24-hour race that features renowned race car drivers from around the world and finished third.
