Man Charged with Murder Found with Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound
The Brampton man charged with first-degree murder in the death of his daughter is in hospital with a gunshot wound, according to a release from Peel Regional Police.
An Amber Alert was issued searching for Riya Rajkumar and her father Roopesh Rajkumar after Riya's mother called police when he failed to return her home from her birthday celebrations.
The 11 year old was found dead in the basement of her father's Brampton home not long after Thursday night's alert.
An injured Roopesh Rajkumar was arrested near Orillia by OPP shortly after his daughter’s body was found, but police kept the nature of those injuries under wraps.
Investigators have since revealed the 41-year-old was taken to hospital and treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police say the Special Investigations Unit was notified but did it did not investigate the circumstances surrounding the injury.
Roopesh remains in custody until doctors declare him fit to appear in court.
