Maryvale Fundraiser To Light Up The Riverfront

A unique run is set to go along the riverfront this evening.

The 6th annual Maryvale Night Run starts in Dieppe Park at 8:30pm.

Running Factory co-owner Gary Belanger is co-race director.

He says this event really lights up the night along the river:

"With it taking place at night we like to give the runners different things to light up the nights, whether it's an armband or a hat from Enwin Utilities."

Maryvale's Carol Myers says the work they do targets high school aged kids.

"We're in the adolescent stream from 12 to 18. We catch the kids at a high school age, high school's a real transition time for kids we've got puberty happening, we've got social media issues which is very instrumental in keeping these kid anxious."

Myers adds, the event makes a big difference.

"This run helps us in a huge way, a lot of our funding is fundraising moneys and that's how we provide programs to kids, outpatient kids. This funding will go directly to outpatient counselling getting to the kids and their families before they show up in an emergency room and now we have a crisis."

There will be race kit pickup at the Running Factory on Wyandotte at Prado from 10am to 5pm, and then at Dieppe Park from 7pm to 8:30pm.
