Minor Tax Increase On The Horizon In Amherstburg

A new budget has been approved, in principle, in Amherstburg.

Residents can expect a tax increase this year of 1.89-percent this year, which works out to about $34 on a home assessed at $200,000.

Mayor Aldo DiCarlo is pleased. "We went from no reserves to funding $8.3-million in capital repairs and investment with only $1.6-million from debt. That, I think, for the people who keep track of the town's finances, is a huge leap forward."

The budget includes road repairs, debt reduction and the hiring of additional staff.

DiCarlo adds another positive going forward is the fact that the number of people moving into the town and the number of new homes being built continues to increase year over year.
