More Support for the Proposed Mega-Hospital Location
The town of Essex is the latest municipality to publicly support the proposed location of a new mega-hospital.
In May, Lakeshore town council called on other municipalities across Essex County to support the location for the new hospital on County Rd. 42 and the 9th Concession, not far from Windsor Airport.
Mayor Larry Snivley says Essex council agrees with Lakeshore, that its the right location and that it makes sense for the entire community.
"The location that they picked is right beside the airport. It's in a prime location, easy access to get at and it's off a major artery. I think it's a far location to the city and I think it's a fair location to the county," he says.

Snivley also feels it's important the entire community supports the proposed site.
"What I'm afraid of here is, this group CAMPP group, if they keep pushing and pushing and pushing, I just don't want to see the senior levels of government saying hey, 'if this is going to continue we're just going to pull the funding," he says.
The group Citizens for an Accountable Mega-Hospital Planning Process (CAMPP) is against moving the hospital to the site near Windsor Airport, saying the hospital needs to be in the city's core to better serve Windsor residents.
Snivley says it's a very small group of people that are opposing the location of the hospital.
"I haven't heard from I bet you a handful of people and I've talked to hundreds and hundreds of people about the location, they're all in favour of the location," he says. "It's a very very small group that oppose it."
Essex will now join Lakeshore in sending a letter to Ontario Premier Doug Ford along with Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Christine Elliott and NDP Leader Andrea Horwath, stating its support for the proposed site.
