Nasty Weather Cocktail Comes with Freezing Rain Warning
Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.
Freezing rain is expected to begin near midnight Monday.
The precipitation will begin as snow Monday night and will change over briefly to ice pellets with 2-4cm of accumulation, before changing to freezing rain.
Environment Canada is warning that freezing rain amounts could be significant ranging from 5-15 mm possible.
It should change over to straight rain by noon on Tuesday.
Meteorologist Gerald Cheng says the timing of the changeover will be a concern for the roads Tuesday morning.
"It's going to switch over to ice pellets and just in time for the commute on Tuesday morning, we are looking at freezing rain. So as everybody is getting ready for work, getting ready for school. That's when it's happening," he says. "So certainly it's going to be very slippery on the roads."
Cheng says there is a warming trend into Tuesday afternoon.
"By noon it will switch over to rain and we are expecting 10-15mm of rain from this system before it switches back to snow Tuesday evening. So certainly you're getting a weather cocktail."
He adds another storm is brewing for the coming weekend.
