Officer Hit by Vehicle in Break and Enter Case

A Windsor police officer is recovering from non-life threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle in a break and enter investigation.

On Thursday around 4:45 a.m., officers responded to an auto shop in the 1200 block of Wyandotte Street East for a report of a break and enter in progress.

Responding officers arrived and found two men who began to run through the parking lot and proceed to jump a fence into an alley.

Officers initiated a foot pursuit and police say one of the suspects got into a black 4-door Cadillac that had been reported stolen on Monday.

When officers approached the vehicle and advised the driver he was under arrest, police say the driver threw the vehicle into reverse and hit one of the officers before fleeing the scene.

The other suspect fled on foot.

Police allege both suspects broke into the auto shop after midnight Thursday and then returned to steal more property.

Police say a white van was removed from a garage and parked in an alley and officers found stolen property in the van.

Police say they also recovered the stolen Cadillac in a parking lot of a church in the 1900 block of St. Mary's Gate.

Both male suspects are described as wearing baggy pants, a sweat jacket and a balaclava concealing their face. One of the men had a white baseball hat and the other a dark baseball hat.

The case is being investigated by the Major Crimes Branch.

Investigators are asking witnesses who may have seen suspicious behaviour around the auto shop to call Windsor Police at 519-255-6700 ext. 4830 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS), or online at www.catchcrooks.com
