Official Grand Opening Of New 22 km Trail In Essex County
A 22 kilometre trail from Amherstburg to Essex is officially open for walkers, cyclists and joggers.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning in McGregor to open the Cypher Systems Group Greenway.
It connects with the Chrysler Greenway and is designed to get people walking, become more active and back to nature.
Cypher Systems invested $250,000 in the project and company president Brian Schwab says amenities like trails help the local economy.
The Town of Amherstburg and Town of Essex contributed $100,000 for the trail.
"The more we can provide for the community, the easier it is for a company like us to recruit talent, to retain the talent because people can live where they want," he says. "We have to have something here in Essex County that makes people want to move."

Authority General Manager Richard Wyma says the trail is worth checking out.
"It gets people out into some parts of Essex County that they would not otherwise have a chance to see. Some of the amazing landscapes that you cross over on this trail are unique and put you in some incredible spots and allows us to celebrate all the amazing things that this region has to offer."
The abandoned rail line was first donated to the Essex Region Conservation Foundation in 2003.
