One Month to Go Before the Detroit Grand Prix

It is one month to go before the Detroit Grand Prix on Belle Isle.

Crews have already been working on the track for about a week to make sure it's ready for the races June 1 and 2, 2019.

A media event was held in Detroit on Tuesday with sponsors Lear and Chevrolet and Team Penske driver Josef Newgarden. He says he's ready for the wild week that includes the Indy 500 one weekend and the Duel in Detroit the following weekend.

"It's a good grind, I mean it's tough but it's a fun event," he says. "It's an important event, it's two races so it's double points.  Indy's double points, so right back-to-back you're looking at pretty much 200 points on the table which is huge."

Newgarden says the mental shift coming to the road course in Detroit is hard.

"You spend a whole month on one type of circuit, like Indianapolis for instance.  And you've just studied the craft of two-and-a-half mile Super Speedway driving.  You've set up a car for that specifically.  Then you come to a place that's completely opposite of it literally a week later."

As part of Tuesday's event at the Lear Innovation Centre, the official poster for the 2019 race was unveiled.
