Ontario To Call Mayors' Meeting On Opioids

The province will soon call a meeting of Ontario's mayors to look at ways to tackle the growing opioid crisis.

Premier Kathleen Wynne announced the move after meeting with Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, who says cities and municipalities both large and small are grappling with the problem of young people becoming addicted and in some cases dying of overdoses every week.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported last week that the opoid-related death rate in this area is nearly double the provincial average.
