Open Air Burn Warning

The Windsor Fire and Rescue Services is warning residents open air burning is not allowed within city limits.

Chimineas, outdoor fireplaces, fire pits and bonfires are considered open air burning and residents may be prosecuted under the Ontario Fire Code.

Fines range up to $50,000.

Windsor's fire chief Steve Laforet says the devices are not allowed to protect people, property and the environment.

He says unauthorized open air burning concerns include fire exposure hazards from sparks and embers, property damage and potential grass fires as well as smoke.

The use of outdoor cooking like gas-fired, propane or charcoal barbecues are allowed
