OPP Aerial Patrol Nabs Speeders, Aggressive Drivers
The OPP Eye in the Sky has resulted in a significant number of charges after a patrol of Hwy. 401 recently.
The force's Cessna 206 has been scanning the highway in Essex County to catch speeding and aggressive drivers.
In a two hour period yesterday the fixed-wing plane was key in issuing 12 traffic tickets.
Eight commercial vehicles were pulled over by ground units for following too closely, while three drivers were charged with speeding, including one going 170 km/h.
One commercial motor vehicle driver was issued a roadside screening device test resulting in a warn and received a three-day license suspension.
In a separate traffic stop, a 17-year-old Tecumseh is facing a stunt driving charge.
He was pulled over on County Rd. 42 west of County Rd. 31 on Sunday morning at about 11am. Officers stopped a Ford going 170 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
The vehicle has been seized from the driver and his license has been suspended.
