Ouellette Avenue Southbound Set To Re-Open After Streetscaping Improvements

Traffic will be flowing again on a section of Ouellette Avenue.

The city will re-open Ouellette Ave. southbound from Wyandotte  to Elliott this coming Monday after 10am.

It has been closed for the past few months for streetscape improvements.

Some of the improvements include new sidewalks, landscaping, on-street parking, a raised median island and reducing the number of lanes from four to two.

Project Manager Jane He says the project includes coloured pavement.

"The is the first time in the city that we use red colour to identify the major Transit Windsor bus bay area and this colour has been used in other cities as well," says He.

He adds the project is behind schedule.

"Right now we are slightly behind schedule however that our constructor is working hard and to try to catch up," says He.  "We hope we still will meet our original schedule however that also depends on the weather."

He says the city will be closing northbound traffic on Ouellette Avenue from Elliott to Wyandotte on Monday.

She says the entire project is expected to be completed by early October.

The city has budgeted between $6.5 to $6.7-million for the project.
