Pat On The Back Awards Presented
Four local environmental projects have been given $500 each at the annual 'Pat on the Back Awards' at the Ojibway Nature Centre.
One of those winners is the 'Bloomfield House Community Garden' on Peter St.
Spokesperson TJ Travis says the project is different than your typical vegetable garden. "We have 19 plots. We've done them in a circle to create a mandala. Our intention is to change the culture of community gardening."
Travis adds the garden has been a learning experience but it has worked out well. "We're kind of learning to do this as we go. Folks that came out to build plots kind of staked their claim to their plots, then we have a larger community plot where the food will go to anyone who picks it."
Other winners include Diana McDonald for her shaded outdoor learning space at John A. McWilliam Public School, the Pelee Island Bird Observatory's Sarah Keating for her enhanced educational programming for schools, and the Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative's Sarah Cipkar for the Spruce up Bruce event.
