Patriots Pummel Lions in Preseason Opener

The Detroit Lions lost to the New England Patriots 31-3 in the preseason opener for both teams at Ford Field.

Jakobi Meyers caught two touchdown passes in an impressive NFL preseason debut.

The undrafted rookie caught scoring passes from Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham in the second quarter, and finished with six catches for 69 yards.

Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford didn't play, and plenty of other key players were also spectators, but Meyers stood out for New England.

Detroit's only points came on a Ryan Santoso 37-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter.

Wide receiver Jermaine Kearse suffered an injury to his left leg, backup quarterback Tom Savage was taken out of the game with concussion-like symptoms.

The Lions are on the road against the Houston Texans next Saturday.
