Plans Now In Place To Finalize Deal For New Mega Hospital Land
The CEO of Windsor Regional Hospital says, despite a funding announcement for the new mega hospital, they're still seven to 10 years away from it opening.
David Musyj, along with Hotel Dieu Grace CEO Janice Kaffer, held a town hall earlier today to update staff and stakeholders on what's next.
Musyj says the hospital has to finalize its plans to purchase the land at County Road 42 and the 9th Concession near the Windsor Airport.
"I hope there isn't an appeal but sounds like there's going to be," says Musyj." In my opinion that's just a waste of money and a waste of time, but people got to do what they got to do and go through the process and have their day in court."
Musyj says the next hurdle is to settle with the property's landowner for the proposed site — which has a July deadline in place.
"Because of everything that's going on we're working with the owner with respect to possibility extending that closing," he says.
Musyj says the hospital will have to come up with the money for the land, at a cost of $6-million, because it's not funded by the province.
He told AM800 News the mega hospital slogan of "We Are Ready" has now been changed to "We Were Heard" after the Liberals committed to funding in yesterday's Ontario budget.
