Police Investigation Leads to Dozens of Charges, Drug Seizure

A six-month investigation by Chatham-Kent police has lead to the arrest of seven people and the seizure of drugs and cash.

Project "Fresh" was part of ongoing efforts by police to combat the flow of drugs.

Police also executed a search warrant at an apartment on Thames St. in Chatham, leading to the arrest of four other people.

Police seized heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl, along with a prohibited weapon.

In all, more than 40 charges have been laid.

"While the number of arrests and charges are very significant, it is a continuing battle to combat the flow of drugs and related property crimes that result from their sale and use," says Inspector Trevor Crane.  "We have no illusions that this problem is isolated to our community, and we will continue to employ as many investigative avenues as possible to target illicit drugs and property crimes and those involved in those activities within our community."

Police say all but three of the suspects arrested have been remanded in custody.
