Possible New Life Coming To the Old Rona Store In East Windsor
There may be new life coming to the old Rona store in east Windsor.
A site plan approval application has been submitted to convert the retail space at 7350 Catherine St. at Lauzon Parkway to a new Lowe's.
It is requesting facade changes to the existing building with a warehouse addition.
"An architectural firm out of Toronto has contacted us and they are looking at putting in a Lowe's in the former Rona which is very exciting because it is very nice to see a reuse out of that building," says John Revell, Windsor's chief building official.
Revell says the property has been vacant for about four years.
"Properties like that, that sit vacant for extended periods of time, they decay and they fall into disrepair," he says. "It becomes a problem and an eye sore and it is harder and harder to reuse the building for another purpose."
He says following site plan approval, the application moves to the building department. In total, Revell says it takes about 10 weeks.
Lowe's Canada Spokesperson Valerie Gonzalo says there are several steps such as negotiations and permits before confirming any store development plans.
She says it does not comment on an potential store growth projects.
