Public Health Standards Under Review

Public health standards across Ontario are being updated.

A review takes place every several years and it's been almost ten years since the last review was carried out.

Windsor-Essex Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Gary Kirk, says the process is taking place right across Ontario. "They're seeking simplify a little bit and reduce the number of standards that we had to meet. Nothing's finalized yet. "

"The changes will affect 36 facilities across the province," says Kirk. "There may be some differences in different area's that we serve right now, like emergency preparedness for example. That's just one case, so we need to see how that impacts us and what that means for the health unit going forward."

Kirk says it's too soon to say exactly which practices and standards will be affected.

He expects any changes to take effect in 2018.
