Residents Embrace Temporary Location of LaSalle's Strawberry Fest
Residents are embracing the temporary location of this year's Strawberry Festival.
The annual event had to be moved to the Vollmer Complex after a wet May left grounds at Gil Maure Park saturated and unsafe. LaSalle spent an extra $45,000 to get the property ready open with live music, rides and vendors Friday.
Sophie and Charlotte Mamak are happy the event didn't get cancelled, but they're missing a few of their favourite attractions.
"This is nice temporarily, the other place is bigger and has more rides there though," says Sophie.
"I like the other place better cause of the gravity ride," added Charlotte.
Coleen Lee has lived in LaSalle for more than 50-years.
She says it's not the same as being down by the river on Front Rd., but the temporary move made the most sense.
"It will be better if it rains because it's all on cement here, there's no mud," says Coleen.
Jennifer Lee is glad the town saw risking cancellation wasn't an option.
"It's the one yearly thing we have here in LaSalle so it's nice, it's great for the kids," says Jennifer.
The Strawberry Festival continues at LaSalle's Vollmer Complex from 6pm to 10pm Friday, 10:30am to 11pm Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday.
