Road Closure Begins At 6pm For The Ford Fireworks
Windsor police are preaching patience for this year's Ford Fireworks display in downtown Windsor.
Thousands of people make their way to the riverfront each year, and each year road closures are the norm.
Sergeant Steve Betteridge says Wyandotte St. between the Ambassador Bridge and Devonshire Rd. will be closed around 6pm Monday.
No stopping will be permitted on Glengarry St., Aylmer St., from Wyandotte Street to Riverside Dr. beginning at 12pm.
The same rules apply to McDougall Ave. from Tuscarora St. to Giles Blvd. and Victoria Ave. from Wyandotte St. to Erie St. until 2am.
While it may be inconvenient for some, Betteridge says the closures are designed to keep pedestrians safe.
He says it's a family event, so alcohol will not be permitted.
"There is no alcohol within the region of where the roads are closed, and there's a map that we've been able to put out with all the numerous road closures, and within that area, that's an alcohol free zone," says Sergeant Betteridge.
Free bike parking will be available at Charles Clark Square from 7pm until 11:30pm.
"Bus shuttles have been set up from Devonshire Mall. There's lots of areas to park your bikes safely and enjoy the night. It's traditionally a fantastic family night, and that's exactly what we're anticipating, and exactly what we're looking for."
The shuttle service will run from Devonshire Mall beginning at 6pm until 9:30pm and will start return trips after the fireworks.
Fireworks kick off at 9:55pm.
