Sears Property At Devonshire Mall Sold
The Sears property at Devonshire Mall has been sold.
The owners of the mall, Hospital of Ontario Pension Plan or HOPP, has purchased the vacant space.
Sears closed back in January 2018 putting 100 people out of work.
Mall General Manager Chris Savard says the property will remain within the mall ownership but no firm plans have been set for the space.
"It is still very new so we don't have anything immediate to announce but certainly in the coming months we are going to work on a plan to reset it, much like we did when we reset the Target box, it took some time and eventually as we could, we spoke publicly what our plans were for the reset of that space," he says.
He says now it can entertain ideas.
"We have had lots of interest on that space, so now we begin the process of working with our development team and leasing team to figure out what the reset is."
Sears declared bankruptcy in early 2017 with the intention of trying to restructure, but Sears Canada announced it would be pulling the plug in October.
More than 12,000 people lost their jobs across the country, 200 of which were lost in Windsor alone.
