Season Over For The Green Giants

The St.Clair Green Giants came up just short getting eliminated from the playoffs by the Saginaw Sugar Beets.

A seven run fifth inning proved to be the difference as Saginaw took the best-of-three series with a 10-9 win at Lacasse Park Saturday night ending the season for St. Clair.

Green Giants Head Coach Dave Cooper says it was a tough end to a great season.

"You've got a lot of guys 22-years-old crying. Half of it was the game and half was because they have to leave their buddies. A lot of relationships were formed there just like any sports team. That's your family for two months. They're on the bus together. They're in the dugout together. They didn't want it to end."

Cooper says St. Clair pitching was top notch this year with Miguel Cienfuegos and top prospect Jacob Moskowitz.

"The pitching was solid. We had the best pitching in the league and that's what held us in there. Cienfuegos goes nine innings on Friday which was outstanding and Moskowitz is Moskowitz, unbelievable."

The Green Giants finished the regular season atop the Northern Division with a record of 26-16.
