SIU Ends Investigation Against Windsor Police

The Special Investigations Unit has terminated a case involving Windsor police officers.

The SIU says an investigation was launched after an altercation took place on July 8th between police and a 41-year-old man riding a bicycle.

According to the SIU, officers pulled over a cyclist because of the way he was riding his bike.

The SIU says police asked the man for identification but he failed to identify himself and pedaled away.

That's when the man fell off his bicycle and was taken into custody.

The SIU says the man complained of a sore right wrist and was taken to hospital for treatment.

In a news release, SIU Interim Director Joseph Martino said the investigation has been terminated, as it does not appear the man suffered a serious injury within the terms of the SIU's statutory mandate.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
