Sleiman Battling Illegal Dumping In East Windsor

An alley in east Windsor is causing concern for a member of city council.

Ward 5 councillor Ed Sleiman says he's been getting complaints about illegal dumping in the alley near Central Ave. and Franklin St.

He recently toured the alley and says he's alerted city staff about the mess, which includes items like old mattresses and toilets.

"If you look at the alley, one side is Laurendeau Ave. which is mostly houses. On the other side, we have community housing corporation housing there and what they have been throwing in the back, I don't know," says Sleiman. "There's weeds, almost like trees growing, you can hardly walk in the alley."

Along with city staff moving to clean-up the alley, a bylaw enforcement officer will also be visiting the site.

"It just doesn't seem like anyone is looking after it. So the bylaw enforcement will definitely be there," says Sleiman. "Furniture, there was a mattress and a box spring that was thrown there. I saw a bunch of bicycles. I don't know who owns them, whether they have been stolen?"

He's also encouraging everyone to reach out to their city councillor if you see junk piling up somewhere it shouldn't be.

"Illegal dumping is everywhere in the city. So one thing I encourage a lot of people to do is when you call 3-1-1 or when you call the city to communicate with them about the problem, if you don't get an answer, it is the time to call your councillors" says Sleiman.
