Some Residents Asking City Council To Defer Mega Hospital Zoning Decision

Monday night's zoning decision on the planned Mega Hospital has caught the attention of some residents.

The Planning, Heritage and Economic Development Standing Committee, and Windsor City Council will hold a joint meeting Monday night — a move Ward 4 resident Michelle Oncea says needs to be reconsidered.

Land at County Rd. 42 and the 9th Concession is being proposed for the hospital.

More than 50 delegations are scheduled to go before council to debate the decision including Oncea who tells AM800 News, the city seems to be rushing the zoning process and needs to defer the decision until a later meeting.

"Why are they doing it all in one meeting, normally it doesn't work that way ... there's time to hear what the issues are and for administration to come back with a report and then go through the motions at council," says Oncea. "A separate planning meeting should be differed to a different time so the councillors can familiarize with issues surrounding the location of the hospital."

The group Citizens for Healthcare will also be addressing council to endorse moving forward with zoning in an effort to have Windsor's new hospital built, "sooner rather than later."

Seven written submission will also be received by council Monday night.
