Spirit Take Commanding Series Lead

Owen Tippett had an empty-net goal and two assists to power Saginaw over the Soo Greyhounds 7-5 for a 3-0 lead in their second-round playoff series.

Cole Coskey, DJ Busdeker, Bode Wilde, Brady Gilmour, Camaryn Baber and Cole Perfetti also scored for the Spirit, who rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the first period.

Joe Carroll led Sault Ste. Marie with two goals, while Morgan Frost, Barrett Hayton and Jaromir Pytlik also scored.

The Greyhounds need a win at home Thursday night to keep their season alive and force a fifth game back in Saginaw.

Other Tuesday night OHL action included, Ottawa winning 8-5 in Sudbury and Oshawa stopping Niagara 4-1.

London will have a chance to sweep the Storm out of the playoffs Wednesday with a win in Guelph.
