Spitfire Goalie Helps OHL Beat Russians

Spitfire goalie Michael DiPietro helped the OHL All-Stars dropped Russia 3-1 in Sarnia.

The CHL now leads the Canada-Russia series two games to one, with game four set for Monday night in Oshawa.

Barrett Hayton set up one goal before scoring a highlight-reel one of his own.

Isaac Ratcliffe opened the scoring 4:55 into the game before MacKenzie Entwistle made it 2-0 for the Ontario Hockey League squad on a penalty shot at 18:05 of the first.

Pavel Shen put Russia on the board in the last minute of the first, but OHL netminder Mike DiPietro stopped everything the rest of the way.

DiPietro says he doesn't alter his game to the opposition.

"I'm familiar with a few guys, but at the end of the day it really doesn't matter who is one the ice, the puck's the same size and it doesn't matter who is shooting it, my job stays the same."

DiPietro, who made 18 saves for the win will be back in the Windsor lineup Saturday when they host Guelph.

The Amherstburg native tells AM800 Sports it took a while to adjust to his OHL teammates.

"There's a feeling out process with the defenceman with the calls behind the net and moving the puck and make sure they clear guys.  You know growing up with these guys, playing against them you have chemistry that forms there."

Hayton, the No. 5 overall pick by Arizona at the 2018 NHL draft, added an insurance goal midway through the second on a one-man rush.
