Spitfires Boost Offence At Draft

The Windsor Spitfires chose to beef up the offence at the 2019 OHL Priority Selection.

With the sixth overall pick the Spitfires selected centre Wyatt Johnston from the Toronto Marlboros organization.

He racked up 46 goals and 46 assists last season.

Spitfires general manager Warren Rychel says the team had an eye on Johnston from the beginning.

"He's a modern day player. Really fast, really skilled and I really like the fact that he trended well the second half and he's was a leader on a pretty good team in the OHL Cup and then the GTHL playoffs. So it's exciting. We want to get faster here and this guy is part of it."

Rychel says Johnston should be a difference-maker.

"Just consistency and his abilities to put pucks away. He put pucks away a lot in the big games and we have so many games here in Windsor where it's a tight game and we're glad to add him. He's a really good player and I think our fans will really enjoy him."

Following the Johnston selection, Windsor picked Pasquale Zito at 41st overall in the second round.

The 5'11'' centre comes from the Mississauga Rebels.

The Spitfires had 13 picks in total in this year's draft:
