Spitfires Prepare for OHL Draft Day
The OHL Draft takes place Saturday with the Windsor Spitfires hold the number six pick overall.
General Manager Warren Rychel and the rest of the Spits ownership group isn't commenting at this time on the rumoured sale of the team, as they are totally focused on this weekend's draft.
The Spits battled to get into this year's playoffs and finished eighth in the Western Conference and were swept by London in round one.
Windsor has 13 picks in total in the draft, but will not have selections in the third, seventh, or 12th round.
Last season the Spitfires selected Jean-Luc Foudy with their first pick, tenth overall.
General Manager Warren Rychel says there's always a strategy on draft day.
"At the top I think you take the best player, and I think we'll do that regardless of position and saying that when you go through the draft you have to pinpoint your needs."
Rychel says it's not easy moving up in the draft by making trades.
"We might get the same player at 30 than 41 so you've got to be careful here how much you spend. You know we worked so hard to replenish and restock the shelves after the 17 Memorial Cup when we traded everything."
The draft starts at 9 a.m. Saturday.
