Spitfires Start 2019 With Overtime Win

A back and forth battle at the WFCU Centre Thursday night.

Windsor and Sudbury traded goals through the entire game, but the Spitfires were able to get 2019 started with a 5-4 overtime win.

Daniel D'Amico scored the winner for the Spitfires in the extra frame.

Luka Henault set up the winner and says it's a great way to start the year.

"It's huge. It's a clean slate. We talked about, as a team, when we play good what we do good. We're always supporting eachother. Our forecheck is good. We're moving our feet. We just kept it simple today and that's what makes us successful."

Windsor's Will Cuylle was the biggest contributor of the night netting his first OHL hat trick.

He says he shows up to win every game.

"We all just came to the rink with one goal in mind, to try to get a win. It was a bit of a tough game, lots of back and forth, but I think we really stayed with it and got some big saves there from Kari [Piiroinen] and that really helped us to get the two points."

Cuylle continues to be red hot scoring eight goals in the last six games for a total 16 on the season.

He says everything is working well right now.

"I'm just relying on my linemates a lot and they're really helping me out to get the puck in good scoring areas and I think I'm doing a good job capitalizing on those chances. Just getting pucks to the net, not passing up on any opportunities and just banging down in front."

No rest for the Spitfires as they hit the road for a showdown with the Guelph Storm Friday night.

The AM800 pre-game show gets underway at 7:05pm with puck drop at 7:30pm.
