Spits Head to Guelph to Battle Storm

The Windsor Spitfires will look to stay undefeated in 2019 when they visit the Guelph Storm on Friday night.

The Spitfires ended a three-game losing skid with a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory over Sudbury at the WFCU Centre on Thursday night.

Spits Coach Trevor Letowski hopes the victory will give the team some confidence.

"Winning helps a lot of things," admits Letowski. "I did like the way that we played, so now we just have to build off that."

The Spitfires (16-19-2-1) sit 5 points ahead of Erie for the final playoff spot in the OHL Western Conference.

The Storm (19-10-3-4) are fourth in the West, 10 points ahead of Windsor.

Letowski says Friday's game will be a battle in a tough environment in Guelph, so he feels their power play will be key.

"Our special teams, our power play has got to get going," adds Letowski. "If we get that going, and play like that, then we're going to give ourselves a chance."

Windsor will have their newest addition in the lineup Friday.

The Spitfires have added free agent overage forward Chase Campbell, who was released by Kitchener last month.

The 20-year-old has scored 25 goals and added 65 points in 214 regular season games with Sarnia, Ottawa, Owen Sound and Kitchener.

Puck drop in Guelph is 7:30 p.m.

The pregame show on AM800 begins at 7:05 p.m.
