Status Quo Recommended For Windsor Voters
If city administrators have their way, there will be no changes in the voting method used by Windsor residents in the next municipal election.
Changes to the Municipal Elections Act would allow voters to rank candidates in order of preference instead of voting for just one person.
Chuck Scarpelli, Windsor's Manager of Records and Elections, says moving to a ranked system would be expensive. "We have estimated about $361,000 more to the election budget so that would bring it over the $1-million mark which is quite substantial."
Scarpelli believes the new method would be confusing for voters and would require a public education campaign. The change would apply to council candidates only, not school board trustees.
