Summer Fest Underway Along Windsor's Riverfront

Summer Fest is underway in downtown Windsor.

The event kicked off on Friday along Windsor's riverfront.

It features rides and games, live entertainment and tug boat races.

Summer Fest is put on my the Windsor Parade Corporation.

Executive Director Maggie Durocher says World's Finest Shows is looking forward to the event.

"This is one of their longest both standing in terms of the number of years that it's taken place, but also one of the events that they attend where they're in one place for an extended period of time. They are here for an 18-day run. They always are looking forward to it as are we."

Durocher adds, it's an all ages event.

"There is a midway with so many things to see and do there along with all of the value added entertainment that doesn't cost you a nickel to attend. So this weekend, lots on stage, lots out on the water. Next weekend it's the tug boat races and, of course, fireworks."

She says advanced ticket sales have been phenomenal.

"We had a great year last year, but we've broken a record this year I believe, unbelievable.  It's just nice to know that this is still an event and this is an old event because Summer Fest was Freedom Fest."

Two other event highlights are the Ford Fireworks happening on June 26 and the Canada Day Parade happening on July 1.

It's the 14th year for Summer Fest.
