The OPP Launch 'Operation Impact' This Thanksgiving Weekend
The OPP are making sure drivers are safe on area roadways.
Officers will be conducting 'Operation Impact' this long holiday weekend.
Essex OPP Constable Karen Sinnaeve says police will be watching out for bad behaviour.
"Officers will be on the lookout for inattentive drivers, which includes using your cell phones for calls and text messaging, we will also be looking for individuals who are speeding and aggressive driving behaviours such as following too closely or having disregard for other drivers on the roadway."
She says road safety is a two way street, between drivers and police.
"This year in Essex County alone, OPP have responded to 18 fatal motor vehicle collisions. With three months remaining in 2017, we have already exceeded the total number of fatalities that we have investigated in 2016."
Sinnaeve adds, police will be stopping drivers in some areas as well.
"We will also be conducting RIDES with respect to alcohol and drug impaired drivers and also ensuring that people are wearing their seatbelts."
The OPP say there have been 182 fatalities on OPP-patrolled highways in Ontario...63 of them due to inattentive driving.
