Three Local Athletes Named To National Sledge Hockey Team
Three local athletes will be representing Canada on the National Sledge Hockey Team.
This past weekend 25 athletes from across Canada descended on the Libro Centre in Amherstburg to compete for a spot on the Women’s National Sledge Hockey Team for the 2018/2019 season.
Local athletes Jessica Matassa, Ashley Goure and Dani McPhee took part in the selection camp and all three athletes were named to the team.
“I’m happy to once again be a part of the team, playing the sport that I love” said Ashley Goure, a pioneer of Women’s Sledge Hockey, having been on the Team since its inception in 2006.
Jessica Matassa says she was really proud for how the community showed its support, saying "the stands were full on Saturday. Every year the talent depth of athletes gets bigger. It’s exciting to be a part of this growing sport and be named to the Team for another season.”
Mastassa says The weekend was a tremendous success, thanks in part to the athletes, the Libro Centre staff and the local communities.
