Tigers and Jays Both Pull Off Friday Night Wins

The Detroit Tigers picked up a win in game one of their MLB weekend series with Kansas City.

Matthew Boyd struck out nine in another solid outing, and the Tigers scored three runs in the first inning of the 4-3 victory.

It was the sixth straight quality start for Boyd, who is a former Blue Jays prospect. He allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings and walked one.

Saturday night, Detroit is bringing back Star Wars Night at Comerica Park.

Fans are encouraged to come in Star Wars costumes to celebrate "MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU"

It took 12 innings but the Blue Jays snapped a three-game slide with a 1-0 win over the Texas Rangers.

Rookie right-hander Trent Thornton limited Texas to one hit and struck out five in seven innings.

The Toronto Blue Jays are hoping to carry some momentum from last night's victory as they continue a three-game series against the Rangers in Texas tonight.
