Starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez was knocked out of the game in the first inning with a bruised calf after he was hit by a comebacker off the bat of the Royals' Whit Merrifield. Myles Jaye took over for Sanchez and got his first major league win with two-and-a-third innings of one-hit ball.
In tonight's rubber match, Matthew Boyd takes the mound for Detroit, while Jason Hammel heads to the hill for Kansas City.
Anibal Sanchez's return to the rotation was short-lived after he was hit by a comebacker from Royals lead off hitter Whit Merrifield in the first inning.
