Brandon Dixon homered in defeat for Detroit. Gregory Soto allowed two runs over two innings and took the loss for the Tigers, who have lost 18 of their last 21.
The Tigers enter the All-Star break in fourth place in the American League Central.
Detroit is 28-and-57, 26 games back in the AL Central and 20-and-a-half games out of a wild card spot. The Tigers resume play Friday when they begin a three-game set in Kansas City.
In other MLB action on Sunday, Trent Thornton pitched six scoreless innings to help the Toronto Blue Jays down the Baltimore Orioles 6-1 at Rogers Centre.
Vladimir Guerrero Junior had two hits and scored twice as Toronto avoided a three-game sweep heading into the All-Star break.
