Top Junior Squash Players In Canada In Windsor

The best junior squash players in Canada have assembled in Windsor for a key tournament this weekend.

The "GOLD" level tournament is being hosted at Windsor Squash and Fitness starting this afternoon.

More than 100 players, both girls and boys, aged 11 to 19 are competing in their category.

Assistant Pro David Morrish says this tournament will help select players to represent Canada internationally.

He says these are the best of the best in Canada.

Morrish says anyone hoping to be on Team Canada will be here.

"This tournament in particular because it's a core, one of the big things is that players there or thereabouts in the vicinity for the World Junior Team have to come and play so that's a big one and why we get the very best" says Morrish.

He says the hard work of Graeme Williams in building the sport is a main reason the tournament is here.

The first match goes at 6:15pm with the finals to start early Sunday afternoon.

This year’s draws are especially strong with Canada’s #1 seeded junior, Akasham Rajagopaul (Niagara) and National U17 champion George Crown (Kitchener) in the field.

On the female side of the draw, U17 National champion, Charlotte Orcutt will also be looking to continue her streak of strong play.

The top local player, Amin Khan (U15, ranked #2), is coming off a win in the first event of the season and will be looking for another win.
